Queer mom moving from Atlanta to NY on August 1st, and my child will be entering kindergarten. Since I'll be working at the Bronx VA, I'm thinking of moving to Westchester County. The schools have good ratings, but I'm concerned about whether they are queer-friendly. Any suggestions on where to live, etc.? Thanks, Jenni

Anecdotally, I hear that Nyack and Yonkers are growing their LGBT populations (and they have the added advantage of being closer to the Bronx). However, I'm going to suggest you contact the LGBT Center in Westchester County, The Loft, in White Plains. I expect they can be more specific and most accurate: 914-948-2932; www.loftgaycenter.org. The family program there is called Loft Kids, incidentally.
