Q.

How can I find a known donor interested in being an uncle?

Hi Terry,

I know there's a group for people interested in coparenting, but where can I find gay men who are interested in donating sperm and having the role of an uncle in the child's life?

Our co-parenting group, Parenting Partnerships (which meets on the second Wednesday of the month, 6:30-8 p.m.)is the place. The people who attend are interested in exploring all kinds of cooperative relationships - not only the 50/50 kind. In fact, though the group tends to attract more men than women (for obvious reasons - women always have the sperm bank option), there are women who do attend who would welcome a guy who is willing to be known, and have limited involvement, but not require an equal parenting role. That said, these arrangements can be tough to make. They can (and have, in many cases) work beautifully, but making these kinds of plans requires enormous trust-building (not to mention good lawyers for all parties!). You'll need to plan on a somewhat slow "courtship period," where you and the women will get to know and trust one another, and have a relationship develop. Good luck!
